The New York Times’ Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey revealed numerous allegations of sexual misconduct against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein in 2017. He was accused of sexual harassment against actresses, female production assistants, temps, and other employees at Miramax and The Weinstein Company over a three-decade period. These allegations fueled the #MeToo movement, and Weinstein was eventually sentenced to 23 years in prison.
In 2019, the two journalists published She Said, a book that detailed all of the processes “they employed to investigate and uncover Weinstein’s sexual misconduct.” Universal Pictures later optioned and adapted the book into a film, which will be similar to Spotlight (2015).
She Said: Story Line
In the movie, Kantor, played by Kazan, is on a mission to assess sexual harassment in all business sectors after realizing how pervasive it is in the entertainment industry. Together with Twohey, she works to persuade traumatized women to come forward and speak on the record in order to expose a system that shields abusers.

Zoe Kazan and Carey Mulligan respectively play the two central roles of Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey. Kazan is well-known for her most recent roles in Clickbait and The Big Sick (2017). (2021). For her roles in The Big Sick (2012) and Ruby Sparks (2012), she has received both high praise and award nominations. Mulligan is still riding the positive press generated by her acclaimed movie Promising Young Woman (2021). She was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe and received an Independent Spirit Award and Critics’ Choice Award.
Patricia Clarkson (Sharp Objects, 2018), Andre Braugher (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, 2013–2021), Samantha Morton (The Walking Dead, 2019–2020), Tom Pelphrey (Mank, 2020), Adam Shapiro (Mank, 2020), Jennifer Ehle (Saint Maud, 2019), Peter Friedman (High Maintenance, 2016–18), and Mike Houston complete the cast (Orange Is the New Black, 2016-2019).
Maria Schrader, a German actress, screenwriter, and director, will direct the film. She previously directed the award-winning 2007 film Love Life and the 2020 Netflix miniseries Unorthodox. She won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series for the latter. Rebecca Lenkiewicz, a British playwright, and screenwriter best known for co-writing the 2018 film Colette with Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland, wrote the film’s screenplay.
She Said: Producer
Jeremy Kleiner, who produced the upcoming Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde starring Ana de Armas, Brad Pitt, and Dede Gardner through his company Plan B Entertainment, is producing the film. Beautiful Boy (2018), The King (2019), Minari (2020), and Father of the Bride (2022) are among the films produced by the company, as are several upcoming projects such as Women Talking (2022), Black Hole (TBA), and Paper Girls (2022).

She Said will release in theaters this fall on November 18, 2022.
