Gayle King admitted her shock when a number of people, Ivanka Trump included, reached out to her after her receiving a backlash over her Lisa Leslie interview question about the late basketball legend, Kobe Bryant.

Oprah Winfrey, 66, who is Gayle King‘s longtime BFF, brought up the distress surrounding her controversial discussion with WNBA icon Lisa Leslie, 47. Their conversation took place during her WW Presents Oprah’s 2020 Vision: Your Life in Focus Tour in Denver, Colorado on 7th March, Saturday. Gayle, 65, asked Lisa regarding the late Kobe Bryant’s past rape case while talking with her. This was met with an enormous backlash from her fans and celebrities including 50 Cent, 44, and Snoop Dogg. 48. She shared that it really surprised her that people came to reach out to her in unexpected places. She said of the experience while chatting with the talk show icon, “Ivanka Trump, it’s not like I’m hanging out at The White House, but Ivanka Trump reached out to me to say, ‘Are you OK? I’m sorry that this is happening to you.’ I mean, I have to say I was very touched by that.”
Gayle also reported another unexpected person who contacted her during her trying time. “Sean Spicer reached out to me! Who I don’t know at all!” She also received a sweet treat from Katie Holmes, aged 44, and her daughter Suri Cruise, aged 15. They left a box of cupcakes at her home in New York City with a card that read, “Katie & Suri. We’re thinking about you.”

“I have moved on. Is there a scab? Yeah. But I have moved on,” Gayle said to Oprah referring to the backlash. She did admit that it was difficult at first. She said that she put on her game face and her big girl pants because she never lost sight of who she was, what she believed she was, and her intention. She added that it certainly was a learning curve for her, and it was very painful.
Gayle’s fans commended her for her remarks about the Kobe matter when the footage of her interview with Oprah was posted on Facebook on 11th March, Wednesday. “You handled it with Grace.” one follower wrote.
